It seems like only yesterday that officials at KVPT, Channel 18, were talking about the launch of a new locally produced program designed to help parents. The truth is that the fourth season of the series "0 to 5 in 30 Minutes!" launches at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
"0 to 5 in 30 Minutes!" presents information for parents with children up to age 5. Topics include health, safety, child nutrition, fitness and school readiness.
Generally, locally produced television shows are poorly shot, lack energy or come across as being the last-minute work by some over-worked producer.
"0 to 5 in 30 Minutes!" is an exception. It combines valuable information with top-notch production. That could be the reason the program has seen an increase in viewers to an average of 31,000 per week. That is based on ratings provided by Nielsen Media Research, a leading monitor of television viewing habits.
KVPT official's report a recent survey, conducted by the local public television station, showed that of the more than 500 respondents, 98% of the show's viewers said they would recommend the program to friends or relatives.
The program is produced in English, but Spanish closed-captioning airs with all the episodes.
If you are the parent of a young child, take a look at this show. If it continues to provide the kind of educational services displayed in the first three years, this is a program that should have a long future.
"0 to 5 in 30 Minutes!" airs at 7:30 p.m. Mondays and repeats at 10 a.m. Sundays. For more info, go to www.kvpt.org/0to5.
