Investing in parent leadership and community organizations builds capacity in our community to promote and sustain outcomes for children and families.
First 5 Fresno County’s Sustainability Project supports community-benefit organizations to strengthen and maintain their ability to achieve high quality outcomes for children ages 0 to 5 and their families. The goal is to help organizations think strategically about how to build their internal capacity to implement solutions addressing long-term needs.
In a ten month period, organizations assess their own strengths and weaknesses, identify resource needs and program goals, and develop strategies to build community support and organizational capacity to become sustainable.

Parent Leadership and Advocacy
When parents act as their child’s advocate and are involved in their child’s education, it is more likely that their child will have higher academic achievement, increased school attendance, and improved school transitions.
The Commission partners with community-based organizations to support parents as leaders and prepare them with tools to speak on behalf of children. Funding is used to provide best practices, high quality services and policies that give children the best possible start in life.
First 5 Fresno County supports trainings for professionals who work with children and families and provides space for other organizations to host trainings.
